Crimes of receptionists
It is a difficult job to keep everybody happy but sometimes receptionists do unthinkable acts as if they received their jobs through royal appointments. Some serve clients as if it is a favour. Age and gender differences may build negative attitudes among receptionists towards customers. Have you ever been to this office where a youthful receptionist treats all young people like trash? I once met someone who decided to hire only uneducated receptionists in a café instead of degree graduates. He explained that those with less education are a little down to earth.
Least informed people. Imagine a receptionist who knows nothing about the company they claim to represent. They instead refer you to a sales representative who may not even be present. If it’s a call centre, they promise to call you back but they never.
Annoying accents. Some can really speak weird ascents and then speak broken English. A weird accent makes a receptionist not audible enough hence ineffective communication.
Disrespectful. Some really undermine clients by Looking at them from head to toe. Some even have loud private nasty conversations on company telephones in the presence of clients. Imagine how disturbing that is. I hear ‘this tycoon’s son has asked me out’. Some receptionists are rude and abusive. Sometimes receptionists have humiliated the elderly and low class people in my presence. You enter this office and ask to see someone but the receptionist looks at your clothes and says you cannot meet them.
Unprofessionalism. I have met some receptionists eating, chatting on social media sites, and doing general body cleaning at the front desk. This is unacceptable. Eating and trimming finger nails at the front desk passes off as insensitive.
Receptionists are the face of the companies. Companies should take great steps to ensure that they are the right teams.
